In short, Canadian author Michael D. O'Brien tells of a tragic incident that happened to a family he knew, and how it affected people. I won't say more than that. He tells the story well enough without my help.
O'Brien is the author of several novels including Strangers and Sojourners, Eclipse of the Sun, A Cry of Stone, and Father Elijah: An Apocalypse. He has also written nonfiction, including A Landscape With Dragons: The Battle for Your Child's Mind. He is also a noted artist and essayist.
