CNN.com - Author: 'Everything on this Earth has a purpose'

A few days ago, a man named Brian Nichols got loose in a Georgia courthouse and shot several people before fleeing, carjacking one car after another, and eventually winding up holding Ashley Smith hostage in her apartment northeast of Atlanta. Smith eventually talked Nichols into surrendering peacefully. Smith has said one of the things she did during her ordeal was to read to Nichols from "The Purpose Driven Life" by the Rev. Rick Warren.
