Baker City Herald: Baker man shares moment in history with new pope

Lisa Britton of the Baker City Herald (Baker City, Oregon) reports:

John Edvalson might have met Pope Benedict XVI in May 1945.

Of course, Joseph Ratzinger wasn't yet the pope — he was only 18 when he was one of 25,000 German prisoners that Edvalson helped escort from Traunstein, Germany, to a prisoner-of-war camp at Bad Aibling...
Imagine reading a reunion notice when you're 87 years old, and it says that your company seems to have been the one that took a future pope prisoner and marched him down the road to be locked up.
