Stories from around America

It's been a while since I've done a "hidden in plain sight" round-up of articles from smaller papers from around America. So here goes:

Connecticut: John Addyman reports Plan Restricts Eminent Domain. I like the lead on this one:
WASHINGTON DEPOT - Reacting to what it termed a "terrible opinion" by the U.S. Supreme Court, the Zoning Commission has proposed an ordinance that will help the town of Washington stifle itself if it's thinking of exercising its eminent domain powers...
Kentucky: The 19th Annual "World's Longest Yard Sale" started Thursday and goes through Sunday. We are talking more than 450 miles of yard sales, running through several states and drawing people from foreign countries. (For the official website of the event, see here.)

Nevada: Jo Rafferty reports on how Learning to fly-fish helps 'Reel' cancer survivors recover:
Nobody knows what it's like to be a man but a man, and nobody knows what it's like to be a man with cancer, unless they're also afflicted with the disease.

That is the underlying theory behind Reel Recovery, a fly-fishing retreat with a dual purpose - it allows men in varying stages of cancer to share their stories while learning to fly-fish...
(The Reel Recovery website is here.)

Pennsylvania: David Keeler reports that Wyalusing's 1939 Fire Engine Returns to Parade Duty. Like many a restoration job, this one took some ingenuity. The article also includes some excerpts from the 1939 newspaper article celebrating the arrival of the truck.
