U.S. Senate: Art & History Home

I didn't know the U.S. Senate had an art and history section at its website.

Hmmm. My goodness, there's even a pdf file where you can read The Senate in Literature and Film, which is Chapter 21 in The Senate 1789-1989: Addresses on the History of the United States Senate, by Robert C. Byrd, United States Senator here.

In it he joshes (I presume that he is joshing), that:
It is hard for real life senators to compete with the likes of Jimmy Stewart, William Powell, and Charles Laughton.
Not that they don't try, of course, at least on occasion.

Hat tip: James Taranto at OpinionJournal.com.

P.S. I just went browsing for used copies. Most sites I've checked so far don't have any. Abebooks.com has five copies, starting at $110 (volume one only); and including a three-volume set of ex-library copies with missing flyleafs in all volumes, for $165. Yikes. If grandpa gave you one for Christmas sometime...
