S. Michael Craven wonders about the possibility of "A New Italian Renaissance?"

S. Michael Craven starts this article by noting a recent manifesto signed by more than 70 Italian leaders in government, trade unions and universities blasting the 'moral and spiritual crisis' that leaves Europe lacking 'the courage to react' to Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism. Then he looks at history, and at how similar small groups have countered a morally declining hedonistic culture -- and changed the culture.

Mentioned in passing is the book The Sociology of Philosophies by Randall Collins (Harvard University Press, 1998). Click on the book cover below to read the publisher's write-up and critics' reviews at Barnes & Noble.
